The start of a new year often fills us with hope and determination. We set our sights on ambitious goals—whether it’s launching a thriving side hustle, saving for a dream vacation, or achieving personal milestones. Yet, as the excitement of January fades, February often brings a harsh reality: dwindling motivation and unfulfilled resolutions. If this pattern feels all too familiar, you’re not alone.
But there’s a way to break free from this cycle. By shifting your focus to sustainable habits and leveraging tools like a Goal Tracker, you can transform fleeting resolutions into meaningful, lasting progress.
It’s essential to understand that achieving your goals isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about consistent action. Imagine having a system that not only keeps your aspirations in sight but also helps you track each step of your journey.
That’s where a Goal Tracker becomes invaluable. It’s not just a tool; it’s a mindset shift that empowers you to celebrate small victories while steadily advancing toward your dreams. With resources like the ClickUp Goals and Habit Tracker, you can align your ambitions with actionable habits, making progress tangible and motivating.

Shifting Focus: From Goals to Process
Setting big, audacious objectives can be invigorating. However, these lofty goals often become overwhelming, leading to burnout and discouragement. As Yvonne Heimann, a seasoned business efficiency consultant, shares from her own experience, “It’s not about the goal; it’s about the process.” The secret to achieving sustainable change lies in breaking down these grand goals into smaller, manageable steps. For instance, instead of fixating on building a multimillion-dollar business overnight, begin by dedicating just one hour a week to essential tasks such as automation, lead generation, and customer journey optimization using a goal tracker.
The Power of Habit Stacking
To maintain momentum and avoid the pitfalls of grand goals, adopt the strategy of habit stacking. This involves committing to small, consistent actions that accumulate over time to bring about significant change. If one of your goals is to write a book, instead of feeling pressured by the enormity of the task, focus on the daily habit of writing. Set aside 15 to 30 minutes each day for writing, gradually building up your routine. Using a reliable goal tracker can help you monitor your daily habits and ensure consistent progress. This approach not only prevents burnout but also keeps you genuinely engaged in the process.
Embracing Commitment Over Perfection
Creating lasting habits is less about perfection and more about daily commitment. It’s about showing up every day, honoring the promise you’ve made to yourself. This mindset shift is crucial as it ensures you’re continuously moving towards your goals without the pressure of achieving perfection. Yvonne Heimann emphasizes that improving habits requires daily dedication and celebrating small victories, which fuels further progress. A goal tracker can play a vital role in helping you stay accountable and maintain momentum.
The Role of Effective Tracking
Tracking your progress is essential for maintaining motivation and accountability. Seeing tangible progress reinforces your commitment, making it easier to stay on course. The ClickUp Goals and Habit Tracker is designed to simplify this process, turning your resolutions into manageable, actionable tasks that seamlessly fit into your daily routine. Utilizing its features, such as automated progress tracking and comprehensive templates, you can monitor your advancement and celebrate each small step towards your larger goals.
ClickUp Goals and Habit Tracker Template
Yvonne Heimann’s ClickUp Goals and Habit Tracker template is an invaluable tool for transforming lofty resolutions into practical, everyday actions. This template is designed to fit seamlessly into your daily life, making it easy to track and celebrate your progress. With features like automated progress fields and customizable due dates, the template simplifies the habit-building process, ensuring you stay on track with your goal tracker.
The template includes tasks set from 1 to 31, representing days of the month, which can be easily duplicated and adjusted for subsequent months. When a task is checked off, the progress meter updates automatically, providing real-time feedback on your achievements. Additionally, you can track various habits separately, such as water intake, where sub-tasks (like each half-liter consumed) contribute to the completion of the main task. This modular approach allows for detailed tracking of daily habits while generating an overall picture of your progress throughout the month and year with your goal tracker.
The Philosophy of 1% Improvement
A key principle to sustaining progress is the philosophy of 1% improvement. By focusing on becoming just 1% better every day, you ensure steady and incremental growth that accumulates into significant achievements over time. This method removes the pressure of immediate perfection and emphasizes continuous, manageable improvement. A goal tracker can help visualize these small yet impactful improvements.
Celebrate each step you take towards your goals. Recognizing and appreciating small milestones keeps you motivated and reinforces positive behavior. The ClickUp Goals and Habit Tracker enables you to see your progress visually, which can be incredibly motivating. By treating each small accomplishment as a step towards your ultimate goal, you maintain enthusiasm and commitment.

Yvonne Heimann [00:00:00]:
Now imagine this, and you probably don’t need too much help with this right now as you are living in it’s the start of the new year and you are filled with all the optimism for the goals you’ve set, all the things you want to accomplish this year. Maybe it’s turning that side hustle into a full time business, finally saving big or doing that Bali trip you’ve been talking about forever and all while your business still runs nice and easily on its own. While whatever it is, chances are once February rolls around, motivation just fades away like the fog here in San Diego. And suddenly you wonder why those resolutions just didn’t stick. We’ve all done it over and over and over again. I’ve been there too. And if you’ve been around for just a little bit, you know, today we are not just setting goals. We’re not just talking about setting goals.
Yvonne Heimann [00:00:53]:
No, we are transforming your New Year’s resolutions into lasting habits. And with my ClickUp Goals and Habit Tracker template, we’ll turn your dreams finally into reality. Ready to set your resolutions and stick with them this time? Let’s make it happen. For those of you who are new here, welcome. I’m Yvonne Heimann, a business efficiency consultant and leadership coach right here at AskYvi.com and I’ve committed my journey to empower entrepreneurs like you to streamline your systems, refocus your daily practices into what really matters. And my clients include national sports associations and digital entrepreneurs. All of them have seen significant shifts, cutting down on unnecessary tasks to prioritize impactful goals and habits. And today I’m here to guide you on a similar path, ensuring your New Year’s goals and resolutions don’t just stay that.
Yvonne Heimann [00:01:56]:
Let me take you back to a time when my list of New Year’s resolutions was both all exciting and daunting at the same time. And then mid February, however, I found myself completely burned out. And not because the goal was unexpiring. Not because the goals weren’t aligned with my core values, but because the habits to support those shifts just weren’t there. And the cycle is common. We often set major big, audacious New Year goals that completely overlook the importance of incremental growth and consistent habits. My secret? sustainable change lies not in that grand big, audacious goal that gets us excited and moving. Yes, but in small, smart steps that actually move us there.
Yvonne Heimann [00:02:45]:
That habit stacking that process, that journey to get there. Transforming your approach by breaking down those giant big, audacious goals into smaller, actionable steps. Dreaming of that multimillion dollar business. Begin by committing to work on your business for at least one hour a week. That’s all it takes, one hour a week. And in that time, focus on automation, focus on optimizing your legion, Focus on polishing your customer journey. Spend that one hour to move your business forward.
Yvonne Heimann [00:03:21]:
You see how now we are developing a habit to get to that goal. Obsessing with that final big audacious goal often leads to stress. Yeah, it fuels our passion. But if it’s really a big audacious goal, you’re going to be like, how am I ever going to reach that? So instead of that big audacious goal, have that use it to fuel now turn it into a daily or weekly ritual. So if writing a book is potentially on your goal list, fall in love with the daily habit of writing. Make it a goal to spend half an hour, 15 minutes, how much ever it is to work on your goal, make it a, a habit and build up on that. My own book journey changed dramatically when I realized it’s not about the goal, it’s about the process. It’s about building those habits and not that deadline pressure of oh my God, I’m supposed to be writing the book ADHD here we know, we know how timeline pressure can do, right? The beauty of improving habits lies in showing up every single day.
Yvonne Heimann [00:04:32]:
It’s not about perfection, it’s about commitment. It’s about honoring the promise to yourself. So how can we work in an everyday environment where life is lifing to really build those habits and stick to them? And this has become really, really clear when I was coaching a client to develop realistic goals that now suddenly following this process allowed them to completely exceed their expectations because they use their big audacious goal as the North Star and every day develop the habit of showing up. Now showing up is just half of the game. The other half is the effective tracking of essentials. To really maintain this habit, you want to be able to see your progress. That’s, that’s what fuels you. Again, that’s the woohoo.
Yvonne Heimann [00:05:23]:
We’ve done the thing that’s the seeing the progress and not be like, oh my God, I haven’t been to the gym kind of thing. Right? We really want to turn your new year’s resolution into daily habits. So with my ClickUp goals and habit tracker template, you can easily transform that big audacious goal, your new year’s resolution, into achievable actions. That just becomes all intuitive and, and just part of your day. So establishing measurable Habits and monitoring the progress helps you stay accountable and motivated by celebrating those steps you have taken. So let’s take a look at the template and how this practically applies in your everyday life. Now this template has been built to fit into your everyday life, to make it really easy to track your progress because the best tool is the one you use. So we want to make it really easy for you to be able to use it in your everyday.
Yvonne Heimann [00:06:26]:
Technically, we are using the automated progress feature field. So just as a little bit example right here, if I check that off, the process is going to move up higher. So how do we do this? Simple. We have tasks in here. You already get the template from 1 to 31 with the due dates in there and with a final due date too. Now the nice thing about this is you can easily change this due date to next month. You just duplicate the task, change it to next month. And as long as you have your click apps turned on for automated due date remapping, it’s going to do the job for you.
Yvonne Heimann [00:07:07]:
Not only that, you can separately track different things. When we look at water intake, we have action items in here. Those action items are my half a litter of water. And when I check that off, the sub task will actually fill itself. And then if I mark my day complete because I took all the water, it then will update the main task. So to give you a little bit of an idea of the tech behind it, we have in our progress, when you look in the settings right here, it tracks subtasks and checklists. So the subtask, make sure it checks the nested subtask as well as the checklist. Now the main task is tracking subtask and checklists too.
Yvonne Heimann [00:08:01]:
Subtask and checklists right there. Now that allows us to make it really simple to track subtasks and be like, okay, I have a habit of drinking water every single day and I need to have 2 1/2, 3 litter. Use the checklist items for those everyday sub things that you have to do to get your daily habit done. And then with that main task, you can track them from January all the way to December. With the daily subtask, it makes it really, really simple to pay attention to your habits, get the best out of ClickUp features while still maintaining easy usability for you wherever you are, wherever you use ClickUp. Now, when it comes to New Year’s resolution and really sticking to them and making them a habit, focus on become 1% better every day. Use habit stacking to add new habits. Celebrate the process and the progress and simply commit to daily improvements, not perfections.
