One of the standout features of ClickUp Chat is its organized structure, utilizing channels for efficient team discussions. Unlike Slack, where messages can get lost in the noise, ClickUp Chat provides both public and private channels that are directly linked to specific tasks and projects.
Public and Private Channels:
By setting up dedicated channels for different teams or projects, communication becomes streamlined and directly tied to actionable items. Whether you’re discussing a project update or collaborating on a task, everything is connected.
Integration with Tasks:
ClickUp Chat’s deep integration means team discussions happen where the work happens. Share files, update tasks, and provide feedback without leaving your task view. This alignment fosters productive and actionable conversations.
Direct Messaging: Personal and Group Conversations
ClickUp Chat recognizes the need for both private and group interactions. The direct messaging feature is designed to make one-on-one and small group conversations smooth and functional.
Private and Group Chats:
Initiating a direct message is straightforward, and you can easily start a private chat with a colleague or create a small group conversation. This flexibility ensures that all types of communication are covered, just like in Slack.
Seamless Calendar Integration:
One significant advantage of ClickUp Chat is the seamless calendar integration. Within your DMs, you can view a colleague’s calendar, schedule meetings, and even check their assigned tasks. This feature keeps everyone on the same page, improving coordination and planning.
Posts: Crucial Updates and Announcements
The ‘Posts’ feature in ClickUp Chat addresses a common issue many teams face in Slack: important updates getting lost in the stream of everyday chatter.
Dedicated Space for Big Updates:
Posts in ClickUp Chat are designed for long-form updates, ensuring that major announcements, big wins, and important discussions don’t get buried. Posts create a space for deeper, more meaningful conversations and keep critical information easily accessible.
Categorizing Updates:
You can categorize posts based on topics such as company updates, announcements, ideas, or general discussions. This structured approach helps ensure everyone is aware of significant events and updates within the organization.
Turning Conversations into Actionable Tasks
ClickUp Chat bridges the gap between communication and action. Features that promote accountability and task integration significantly enhance team productivity.
Task Creation from Chat:
Great ideas often come up in casual water cooler conversations, but they can quickly be forgotten. With ClickUp Chat, you can instantly create tasks from any conversation, ensuring no good idea goes to waste.
Linking Conversations to Tasks:
You can connect chat messages directly to tasks or documents, providing context and clarity. This feature is particularly useful for maintaining continuity and ensuring that discussions lead to tangible outcomes.
Accountability and Follow-Up
Accountability is critical in any team setting, and ClickUp Chat excels with features that keep team members on track.
Assigning Comments:
Comments within a conversation can be assigned to team members for follow-up. This ensures clarity on responsibilities and prevents tasks from falling through the cracks.
Organized View for Follow-Ups:
ClickUp Chat’s sidebar menu includes options for viewing sent messages, drafts, activities, posts, and replies. This organization ensures that no message is forgotten, and every task is accounted for, promoting thorough follow-up and completion.

Yvonne Heimann [00:00:00]:
Are you over Slack feeling like a chaotic mess of messages and missed opportunities? Well, today is your lucky day because we are diving into an exciting new feature from ClickUp that might just save your sanity. Welcome to ClickUp chat. That’s right, this new feature in ClickUp could finally replace Slack for your team’s chat and conversations. And in this video, I’ll break down how ClickUp chat stacks up against Slack and why you might want to hit the switch ASAP. Hello and welcome. I’m Yvonne Heimann AKA Yvi, from AskYvi.com, and I help digital entrepreneurs like you turn your passion into profit by automating the heck out of your business so you can dominate your industry without burning out. Let’s get into it. So what’s the deal with ClickUp chat? Yes, we always had chat as a view, but this is so much more now.
Yvonne Heimann [00:00:53]:
Simply put, it’s a streamlined, integrated communication hub built right into your most favorite project management tool. We now have channels for team discussion, enhance direct messaging for private conversations, and posts for those big deal updates. No more jumping between tools or drowning and endless Slack chats. ClickUp chat keeps everything nice and tidy in one place, so you can stay on top of your projects and your conversations. Let’s talk about channels. In ClickUp you can set up public or private channels directly linked to your tasks and projects. That means communication doesn’t feel scattered and all over the place. Unlike Slack, where things can get messy really fast, in ClickUp chat, everything ties back to your actual work.
Yvonne Heimann [00:01:45]:
What a concept. The conversation is happening where the work is happening. We’ll talk more about this here in just a little bit. It really is deep, connected to your projects. You can share files, give it updates, and drop feedback without ever leaving your task view. It’s communication that’s actually productive and actionable because it is built around your projects. To give you the big overview before we dive even deeper into all of the features that are now coming with ClickUp chat. You now have a sidebar menu that says ClickUp chat.
Yvonne Heimann [00:02:21]:
One stop for all of these chats going on. And as you can see, we have replies in here, we have posts in here, follow ups, the activity your drafts ever did, the whole writing a message and never actually sent them. ClickUp chat now allows us to really have them all together, to be able to pay attention to those and not forget them again. And as you already can see in here too, ClickUp chat gives us multiple channels that you can easily go in, sort them. You even can create a new section right here with a specific focus however you would like and simply add chats to it or any of your people sort them however you would like. There’s so many possibilities, right? These channels within ClickUp chat work similar to your channels within Slack. ClickUp chat is bringing together different types of conversation because we have direct messages. You already heard that we have posts for update and all the things.
Yvonne Heimann [00:03:29]:
So let’s get through the different types of messages that are happening and are possible right here in ClickUp chat for you. One of them is direct messaging, similar to Slack. You easily can start a new direct message with one of your members, and that is how easy it is to send somebody a direct message. So ClickUp really has your back with private one on one or group chats, just like in Slack. But here’s where ClickUp really shines. You can view somebody’s calendar and even schedule meetings directly from your DM’s right in here. I can open up Luby’s calendar. I can open up the chat.
Yvonne Heimann [00:04:16]:
I see her assigned tasks right in here. No need to keep track on what your teammate is working on. And you even can assign tasks straight up right here in chat simply by marking the text, deciding which list this goes to, and save it as a task. This gives you so much more context than the conversation that are happening in Slack and never turn into anything. You remember this water cooler conversation? It’s like, oh yeah, we talked about this a week ago and it was supposed to get done and it never got done. Not happening with ClickUp chat. Now let’s talk about posts when we go right in here. You have posts right up here.
Yvonne Heimann [00:05:03]:
Think about it this way. Have you ever had an important announcement or update in Slack where it’s like we are doing this, yes. Or we won this contract, something important, a big change, a big win. And it just completely vanished in Slack in the sea of all of the conversations and all the things that are going on. Yeah, same here. We literally had to build a specific Wooha Slack channel just for it to not get lost. Straight up integrated in ClickUp chat. That’s what your post feature is for.
Yvonne Heimann [00:05:38]:
With a post feature in ClickUp chat, you can create long form updates for those bigger announcements or discussions, ensuring nothing gets lost in the chaos. It encourages the deeper conversation and more meaningful updates instead of those quick disposable messages we are all used to in Slack, posts do have different topics. Is it a company update? Is it an announcement? Is it an idea? Or is it a general discussion? Now with posts in ClickUp chat, you have one spot for company updates and have that rolling timeline of what you have accomplished and what is happening in your business. No more getting lost in Slack messages and nobody knows what the heck is happening. Not only that, ClickUp chat also has your clear project management integration, which means everything is actionable. So with ClickUp chat, your tasks and timelines are right there in the same window. No extra integration needed, no clunky ads on, just straight up connection between the conversation and the work. With Slack, you are jumping between apps and sometimes things feel just scattered.
Yvonne Heimann [00:07:05]:
In ClickUp chat, everything is seamless. You can view your tasks directly in chat, so it is easier to stay up with goals and deadlines. Going back to my testing conversation with Luby right here, you have the feature of relationships. So this personal conversation can be linked to a specific task, a specific document, or specific links. It is really simple to connect a chat message to a specific task. For example, let’s see what we can find for Luby. There is some content right in stir. Don’t want to mess that one up right there.
Yvonne Heimann [00:07:49]:
Now this conversation, this chat message that I had with Luby where we are trying to figure things out, is specifically connected to the task. So when we go to the task, there it is. It is right there. You have a seamless integration between communication and project management. This is how you can turn chats into actionable items without skipping a beat. We all know how it goes in Slack. Great ideas gets thrown out there in the chat and then gone. It is as fast as the idea come as fast it is forgotten.
Yvonne Heimann [00:08:27]:
Not with ClickUp chat. You can instantly create a task from a conversation so nothing falls through through the cracks and you can even link the chat directly to your tasks for context, as you just saw. Let’s talk about accountability because there’s a lot happening, right? We have a lot of conversation going on. We finally can connect them to the doing and take action on it. In ClickUp, you can assign comments to team members for follow up. We can go in and can again, let’s do this too. And we sent this and you can easily assign this to Luby who then also will see this again as assigned to you. You need to take care of this.
Yvonne Heimann [00:09:18]:
No more scrolling through endless messages trying to figure out what you missed and who is responsible. Simply go into your chat and you will see your draft, your send, your activity, things you need to follow up posts that are happening, as well as replies you have gotten. As you can see, not much is happening in our chat right now because we are right now in the process of really cleaning everything out, setting everything up and saying goodbye to Slack. Comment below. Are you ready to say goodbye to Slack and really integrate ClickUp chat to make your conversation actionable? For now, ClickUp chat is free, so go take it for a spin. Go test drive it. See if it and I promise you it probably will be perfect to streamline your communication as well as make it actionable.
